Standard Australian Business Sponsorship

The great advantage of being a registered Standard business sponsor is that your company can hire overseas workers for positions that it cannot fill locally.

Becoming an Australian Business Sponsor Will Allow You to Hire Foreign Workers on the 482 Visa

How to Become an Australian Business Sponsor

For an Australian business to be able to sponsor an overseas worker on the TSS 482 work visa, that business needs to be registered as an official Standard Business Sponsor. Many employers presume that applying for this sponsorship approval is an expensive process. It isn’t.

The great advantage of being a registered Standard business sponsor is that your company can hire overseas workers for positions that it cannot fill locally. The 482 work visa also allows for a company to transfer workers from an overseas operation to Australia.

To apply to become a registered sponsor is not expensive; it currently costs AU$420 in government application charges. The Nomination stage, however, can be a complicated process but under the guidance of a registered migration agent it is most often successful.

To be eligible to apply to become a sponsor, among other requirements, an Australian business must:

“Have a legally established and currently operating business”

and

“Have no adverse information regarding your business”.  Source: Department of Home Affairs.

When your business is approved to be a Standard Business Sponsor to engage employees from overseas your registration lasts five years.

Applying to Sponsor an Overseas Employee

There are three main steps for a business when applying for a 482 TSS work visa:

  • Sponsor: Apply to become an approved Standard Business Sponsor.
  • Nomination: Submit the nomination of a specific prospective skilled occupation in your company.
  • Visa Application: The skilled worker applies for a 482 visa related to the skilled occupation/position that has been nominated by the Australian business sponsor.

Australian Citizenship Experts

On May 22, almost 70 people attended a Melbourne Just Australia seminar conducted in Italian with Migration Ways about the recent 457 visa and citizenship changes.

The audience, predominantly Italians aged in their 20s and 30s, listened to Migration Ways co-directors Rebecca Santaera and Alberta Miculan answer questions for about 40 minutes about these changes. Rebecca and Alberta discussed the 457 visa changes implemented this past April, the coming July 2017 changes to the 457 visa, and the skilled visa changes to take place in March 2018. They also discussed regional visas and the future regarding applications for Australian citizenship.

Many attendees wanted to know how the recent visa and citizenship changes impacted them, most importantly if they could still stay long term in Australia or had to soon leave. Two specific questions asked were:

  • What can I do if my occupation is no longer on the skilled occupation list?
  • What should I do if my job is now only on the short term (2 year) occupation list?

See photographs of the event and listen to Rebecca Santaera’s introductory comments IN ITALIAN below.
